How do I tell if my beauty pageant is real or a scam? Ask a few simple questions - Is there a fee to enter? If there is any fee of any kind, wether its a check, cash or sell sponsorship - aka ad - space in a booklet, run away. Now some pageants are real and they do charge fees. These are for services. I will give you an example. We charge $50 per contestant flat fee. That gets you a 15 minute make-upsession the day of the event, our photographer will take 3 pictures of you full height and face only behind a basic white, black and blue backdrop. You will get all 6 of these pictures on a proof sheet, and can pick which one of the two poses you want in an included 5×7 or 8×10. And you get 4 tickets for people to come into the pageant. Additional tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

See how that works? You pay some amount that is not $495 - it keeps the rabble out. It goes towards something tangeable. Your child gets a touch up like all the other girls competiting. And you get a nice picture to walk away with. Oh and BTW, the photographer will NOT stamp their name on the photo. And the photographer does not retain any rights to use the images for any other purposes.

How else can I tell if my pageant is legit or not? How did you hear about THEM? Did you read it in the paper, on a sign at the borough hall or supermarket or local town bulletin? Is it run by your church or civic group? Is it run by the local hospital or charity group? Is it a fund raiser with ALL, 100% - ALL - proceeds going to a worthy cause? If not, is a business. AWalk away while they are trying to sell you stuff. And if the try and hide that they are a business, run away screaming.

Look up the name of the outfit running the pageant. If you see that they are running events all over the cuntry, yes thats right - DONT WALK RUN AWAY. Its a business. Read the letter and see where they try and prey on your love and emotions and pluck away at your heart strings. And smile that you didn’t get caught.

One last thing for the name generator - switch positions like this. The possibilities are endless and are only limited by your ability to find a hall or hotel that is slow during these rough economic times, some local photographers desperate for work, a DJ who wants to play for free so they can hand out their business cards and flyers to do local weddings and parties, and bham you have an event. Buy a mailing list from the Internet cheap and you have clients running to your door to sign up. Just remember to polish up your sales skills so you can close on the parents and get those checks and credit cards and cash.
