While leaving Rome Anna mentioned how much she loved being in Italy and wanted to come back. And wanted to learn to speak Italian. The other day we are driving around and I notice a sign “Italian lessons”. I drive around the block, pull back up to the building and park. I wait for her to spot the sign, which she misses. Good thing she has me and my amazing vision.

After some discussion and concern on her part about her time, she signs up. Last week she had a great time. The instructor told her she had great pronunciation. I just know that woman can be very sexy speaking Italian. Not yelling it, of course. Anyway, yesterday she had me quiz her on her words. She went to class tonight after spending the day in bed sick. Since she has been enjoying me singing Con te partirò I thought lets take it up a notch.

Tonight I looked up prices to take her to an opera at The Philadelphia Opera Company. It would be a nice plan, subtitles so i could pretend it is a karate movie. Maybe take Eilis so she could hear the music and see the costumes. But holy cow who pays this much to see an opera? The Sunday performances were as much as $220 per seat.

I found Fidelio playing Octover and for a Friday showing, with 3 tickets and advance parking at the Kimmell Center it broke out like this -

Parq Circ 3 Single Full T 46,48,50 $96.00 $288.00

FY09 Parking KC Garage Friday, October 10, 2008 6pm | Kimmel Center Garage 1 KC Parking Single General Admission $20.00 $20.00

Subtotal:$308.00
Handlng Fees: $16.50
Total:$324.50

Why are opera tickets so expensive? I checked for the next performance of An Italiean Girl in algiers and itys the same price.

Is it cheaper to subscribe to the Opera Company of Philadelphia? Heck yes

The Parquet Circle is $340 and the Family Circle is $232. Big savings - you get one opera for free. Now if only I knew that they would enjoy listening to the music and experiencing being there. Without the subtitles, these can be very pleasant to just listen to and feel the story.
