The Spine of the World review
The Spine of the World is Book XII in the Forgotten Realms epic sage The Legend of Drizzt written by R.A. Salvatore. A stirring tale of the fale of a barbarian hero we have loved, lost, and then gotten back. Now we witness his tumble back onto the prime mortal plane only to be unable to handle the reality here and forget the torture at the hands of the balor Errtu and his minions for years. Years that on that dark plane of The Abyss seemed like eternities over and over, unending.
The Spine of the World is also titled as Forgotten Realms: Paths of Darkness, Book 2. Part of the problem with my reading this books years after there where published is that I am getting them in remarketed form. Different covers, resale bundles, collections and without the normal sequence numbers on the cover and spine.
This is a book that I cranked out in 2 flights back and forth from the midwest to the east coast, learning of Wulgar, his friendship and struggles with facing the mighty hammer that the huge barbarian wields while not fighting dragons and mighty giants, but working as a bouncer for the barkeep Dohni Ganderlay. His salvation comes not from Drizzt, but from a passing chance encounter with the captain of the Sea Sprite, Captain Deudermont. He helps Wulfar more out of respect for Drizzt and Catti-bree. Oh how the mighty barbarian and dragonslayer, unitier of the tribes of Icewind Dale, has fallen on hard times, inside a bottle.
I am rattling here about events that might have happened in another book, the events just role together so well in this well written story. Great job once again to R.A. Salvatore.
