I had the pleasure of taking and passing the NRA Range Safety Officer course conducted today at the Delaware State Pistol Club. The address of the DSPC is 624 Moores Lane, New Castle, Delaware 19720. Mark Garfinkel did a great job in covering the NRA material, and brining the rest of the group into conversations. It was great to be around a group looking to help shooters be safe on ranges so willing to give up a day of their time.

My thanks goes out to LT David Zittere, NSCC, the Commanding Officer of the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps WILLIAM E TAYLOR Division out of Delaware.  David runs an outstanding unit and has a well planned marksmenship program for the USNSCC cadets. I had the opportunity to join his unit with another Instructor and a few cadets from the BB-62 Battleship New Jersey Division earlier this year. David followed up on this with letting me know about the NRS Range Safety Officer Course.

Next steps in my NRA training? - Rifle instructor. I need to take the Basic Instructor Training or such course, then test out of or better yet, take the Rifle course, then the Rifle Instructor course. A fun goal to work on.

Besides some great people in the class with me, I was able to talk with Bill Dugent, the Hunter Education Coordinator with the Delaware Division of Fish & Wildlife. He and another class attendee work at the Ommelanden Hunter Education Training Center, 1205 River Road, New Castle, DE 19720. Phone: 302-323-5333. This great facility has a full range ( no pun intended) of options including - Outdoor Pistol (25 yds), Outdoor Rifle (50 yds), Muzzleloading, Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays, Archery and Airgun. The range is open to the public.

PS - While at the Ommelanden Hunter Education Training Center, you get cell phone service from towers in DE and NJ. Be sure to stop and watch the Delware River scenary when driving in and out of the facilty.
