This was the first book in this series I have ever read. In fact, this was the first time I had even heard of R.A. Salvatore. I avoid this section of the book store. So many of these stories just strike me as crappy and written in one hit wonders. And without taking that time, I missed not only this great epic story, but a well made world full of adventure under the TSR banner of the Forgotten Realms.

In The Legacy, long title Forgotten Realms: The Legend of Drizzt, Book VII, R.A. Salvatore gives us a merge of adventure as the dark elf Drizzt is once again the target of his homeworld in the Underdark. The Spider Queen continues to be involved and drives the ways of mortals to chaos, her true passion. The compaions of the hall fight to protect Drizzt while a previous human strives to help the evil citizens of the Underdark bring him down.

Drizzt Do’Urden walked slowly along a trail in the jutting southernmost spur of the Spine of the World Mountains, the sky brightening around him…” And then 100 pages later you come up for breath.

It was at this point, on a flight from Minneapolis to Philadelphia that I went to Borders and picked up ever book in the series I could find.

And weeks later on a trip to Borders in Orlando, FL, I learned of the other works of R.A. Salvatore and the differences between books under the Forgotten Realms brand and other books in the D&D genre.
