Poor customer service at dauntless-soft.com
I finally sat down and started working on the hard part of the FCC exam - Extra class. And started using the exam testing software I picked up from Dauntless Aviation. The trial doesn’t let you see the problems with the software.
First and the easiest problem they could fix - the app doesn’t work with Vista. It requires a permissions work around. I realize that Vista is brand new, just came out 3 days ago, and is only used on my computer. But maybe when 1 or 2 other people start using Vista, this company will fix their minor issue and be a Vista working application. This type of issue can be fixed very easily, especially in small stand alone applications. In fact here is a link to help them get it working - http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/winlogo/WLP30program.mspx It has all of the information you need to get started.
Why such a glib comment on this simple issue? Because the companies tech support seems to like those type of responses. he note I sent them on the problems with using the software got blown off immediately with no effort to investigate. And of course the usual and most used lame customer service answer to piss off a customer - “you are the only one who has ever complained about any of our products, ever”
That is because I am special, I actually use things I purchase, and I expect people to have every button work as intended.
What are the show stoppers for this software? If you just take 1 exam and walk away, you won’t really feel it. But if you take a battery of questions, in small segments to test repetition, you find the problems immediately.
When you finish a test, and want to retake those you missed, you most answer a confirmation box. Every time. Why no way to turn this off? Why is it even there?
When you finish a test, and you want to retake those you missed, you have to exit the program and start over from the beginning selecting an exam. Now if you are testing while doing other things, such as runnin a host of other programs, and playing music in the background, and have a resource hog process going on in the background, this can turn into 10 seconds of idle time. On a fast response it is dozen clicks and 3 to 5 seconds of time wasted. Over and over and over. Why is there no way to retake the same battery of questions?
When you go through this software, it is common practice in test software to find reference links. This software has none. Encounter a new section that you haven’t touched in 10 years, let alone 20, and you are back at a search engine. Same if you question an answers math, or is accurary. No breakdown of the math performed or accurary. In fact the only justification provided that A is the correct answer for question #2 is a copy of the the answer A in another field. This is of no value.
The software works, and with someone who only takes one exam on a Windows XP machine, you will never notice it. If on the other hand you are trying to bang out 20 questions over and over again, looking for random question order, random answer order, and a rapid turn around to restart the exam, you are out of luck.
Now dont get started on taking the exam in small chunks and checking your overall score, because that also starts over when you take a new test battery. The software needs you to click not the start this test over or restart, but instead the Exit button.

Hello everybody,
the internet is a wonderful place in that everybody is welcome to post their opinions and experiences.
My name is James and I’m from dauntless software, the company that Jim above is complaining about.
I’d like to present our side of the story, and I trust Jim will have the decency to allow readers to compare both sides.
The above failed to provide a valid email address, or any names matching the companies business, so while I let the post go through, it’s accuracy cannot be verified.
Laslty, the fine folks at this company decided to send me a $0.02 refund. I will just call the bank and process a full chargeback for the entire amount.
Not only are they rude in their customer service emails, but the nerve to smack around a customer and have the arrogance to send a $0.02 refund is horrible. At this point, I would urge everyone to not use hamexam.com and do not deal with dauntless until their customer service improves.
