Domaining crisis - show your support
Reported in ICS, a recently proposed legislation will continue to add rights to domain name victims and consumers against all of those less then ethical domain name “domaineers” who register gogle and gooogle to lure on average consumers and web surfers.
Can you rent a store next to a 7-11, decorate the building exactly the same, and call it 7-12? On the Internet we have people doing that all the way down to 3-12, and taking giant pictures of the front of the 7-11, and using it as a picture to lure people in. Heck, we have stores where the 6-11 clerk runs next door to 7-11 for your order and adds a markup fee.
Is it funny? Yes if someone tried to do it in the real world. The business would fail in a heartbeat let alone face some tough lawsuits for deceptive business practices.
Is it sad? Yes, if it is only done to decieve the average consumer by duping them. And Internet users, average people, have to just put up with the nonesense in a free range world.
As for a parked link site, I have sites thrown on parked as I buy them and wait to set them up, or get ready to sell them. It is a temporary thing. I am sure there are people who just leave them there as placeholders. Some would call it squatting, especially when they see someone sweep in with an automated list and do it to hundreds of name combinations. I tried to buy a domain name that was parked for 18 months, sending emails from my personal, and friends Hotmail and Yahoo email accounts, to never get a response. That domain is just parked. Can you buy a lot and refuse to sell it? Sure. But if you go into a city and buy up hundreds of parcels and prevent growth, you will find the local and state government putting pressure on you to the point of eminent domain laws.
Did Viagra TM Viagrb Vaigra Baigrb and every other letter combination using a porgram to look for keyboard typo mistakes? Domain people do. All the time.
Common antics that are done to really just prey on people and decieve them is certaintly going to cause outcrys for action. Domain owner business sites are throwing out pages and half quotes of the bill urging people to fight against it. Why are they not rallying just as hard for better business practices of their own? Why are they not urging the governing bodies to create the .XXX domain name to make it easier for people who do or don’t want porn to allow it or block it? Why are they not fighting against people who register domain names and then park copies of other websites as an effort to make money, instead of selling e-books on how to do it to make money?
