TechReady 6 Day -I Good for the environment every day
This year in addition to the badge and the wrist band for the big party event, we got a water bottle. The tag inside has the following note:
Help us reduce the environmental impact of TechReady
Use this reusable water bottle through the TechReady conference and help us remove nearly 35,000 disposable plastic water bottles from the waste stream! Water cooler stations will be located in every session room and in multiple locations throughout each TechReady venue where you can fill your water bottle. Biodegradable cups will also be available at each water cooler station.
This is a great thing to see. I am no environmental heretic, but I certaintly am for anything that reduces needless trash from newspapers at hotel room doors, to junk mail to paper telephone books. So kudos for doing this.
Now, how were we only using 35,000 water bottles in a period of a week? Heck, I gave up soda and have been drinking a ton of water every day. Last TechReady I went through a good 10 bottles of water every day. Only a hand full of us aren’t chugging down the soda? I am glad I gave it up, and have no regrets about it. I will still have my lemonade drink mixes in my pocket when the plain water taste needs a boost. And at zero calories, it is just a splash of artificial sweetner and a burst of color and flavor.
