2008 Ford Focus review - Hertz Five Star Club
Yes, I know, I am missing a new rental car from yesterday. I don’t the safe route and did not drive to the airport in a winter storm just to get an extra rental day for my run for Hertz President’s Club level at 40 rental agreements. Sanity over frequent flyer programs and common sense won out. How was my drive to Mitchell Field, Milwaukee International Airport (MKE) today after the storm? Actually a piece of cake. Until I got to the airport itself. The circle going around the airport was in pretty bad shape. I guess they assumed plow it a little bit, then let the traffic of airline travel clean the rest up. Trouble is, the airport closed. I also guess the plows are spending more time on the runways.
Walking in today, the staff was great to joke with about my not being there yesterday.
What did I get today. Nothing. Seems I was 45 minutes early, and they were so busy they had not gotten to my reservation yet. The counter got me a 2008 Ford Focus with Hertz Never Lost. I asked about upgrades and was told they were backed up. How? The airport just opened an hour ago and has not been flying all night. Seems a lot of brave souls switched to one way rentals and drove home. And a wave of rentals waiting for cars still had to be serviced.
The car was perfectly fine. Easy to drive in the snow, ice and slush. Condition was perfect in this brand new car with only 1,090 miles on it. The car comes with SYNC - but I have no idea how to use it. Turning on the Bluetooth search on my phone yielded no source to connect to. No wires visible, and I thought this was a wireless system.
Hertz Never Lost II - not a high score. For kicks, I turned it on and asked for directions to the Courtyard Marriott Downtown Milwaukee, WI. The route got me to downtown, but the system had no knowledge of the exit I have been using for a year now. And it was here before I got here. So in a brand new car, you would hope they put in the latest map and updates. I guess not. Or NLII is in need of some service updates.
When I took my exit, it took some time to realize that I had left the highway and was floating in open air. Then it tried to tell me to take the next exit anyway. Apparently the Plankington Exit 1D took Hertz NLII down.
