WordPress theme needed - free or paid

Posted by Jim on February 6, 2008

One of the pros and cons of our family is that we have multiple blogs going on for family members, friends, and side businesses and hobbies. And that is also the problem. Anna wants the front page to be a news landing page. So it is its own story site, content of 1, and nothing else. Over time, I have dropped on Christmas themes, sometimes right after Thanksgiving, sometimes right around Christmas. That is also the problem with the single static or mostly static landing page. Even I don’t go there. I don’t even link to the main page at http://skamarakas.com. Instead I link to my blog at http://skamarakas.com/jim Add to this the blogs that I do at work and at customers that I cannot do outside of work, and it is an interesting problem. Anna blogs and writes a lot, for herself and others and as a content writer. Brighid blogs, Or rather Brighid blog. One day we can add that S.

I added a little piece for her last 5 posts above the 1 main family news posts for several reasons - but mostly to make the content more dynamic.

I am looking for something that will search the individual blogs, pull up their latest posts, drop them on the front page - something that keeps it family looking. So a newspaper theme with pictures of her and me and Brighid got rejected as looking like a newspaper.

Anyone have any examples of a family consolidation theme being used? Wether it pulls from one blog, a multiple user blog, or different sites over RSS and some PHP magic. I just want to get the content there more often, and still keep her happy. Right now all the sites are on different databases, so the theme would have to be able to handle multiple connect strings to do its updates, or pull from RSS. Since it would be showing excerpts, I would think the RSS would be fine. But then again, I may be thinking down the path to technical, as I would do.

Now I do not have graphical talent. I know it. And I know how to use Photoshop. That does not make for good graphics. It makes me a picture hacker just as I am a script kiddie and not a programmer or DBA.

Any suggestions or pointers?
