I am a Ronald Reagan - insert phrase here -
This phrase is getting slammed around a lot this election year, and it will get worse. If you don’t know why this is an important phrase for American voters, watch Morning in America, watch a clip of his return to a join session after the assination attempt. Look at the movies and music that are the pop culture of America during his administration. Ignore the politics, evil empire, fallen wall, deficits, spending, taxes, tax cuts, reagonomics, voodoo economics, and anything a politician did for those great 8 years.
Look at home Americans lived, worked and entertained themselves. It is an iconic time the same as the early 60’s are for bitnicks, the late 60’s for hippies, early 70s for rocks and drugs and the late 70’s for disco. Heck a John McCain commercial just came on with John claiming to be a true conservative and says he is a fan of Ronald Reagan. It is all over, on both sides of the fence, and from the mouths of the talking heads.
Now an intertesting map of the political choices at http://methodius.blogspot.com/2008/01/us-primaries-2008-republicrat-will-be.html seems to feed on this. But here is the problem with feeding the masses - ignorance. The educated remember what someone said last week or did last year and hold people to it. But until elections are only filled by people who vote with an informed opinion rather then what their neighborhood block captain tells them, it doesn’t matter. Elections are won by a well oiled machine, or your opponent killing a dog.
And Methodius, I would suggest you take the Worlds Smallest Political Quiz over on Facebook, and let us know how you compare on that chart of yours ![]()
