Bush Exempts Navy from Environmental Law
President Bush exempted the Navy from an environmental law so it can continue using sonar in its anti-submarine warfare training off the California coast — a practice critics say is harmful to whales and other marine mammals.
As a former US Navy sailor, I am 100% for laws that admit to the reality of life at sea. We threw red lead over the side, but did it when we were far enough off shore. Sonar is a part of our society for decades for detection and defense. It is used by surface and submarines alike. Why does this law need to be passed now? Because of half thought out complaints. I chalk this up to the scare of global warming. People forget we live on a moving object that will disappear one day, possibly with no notice and not based on anything we have done. It’s how we have fossil fuels today to fill up those Hummer H2’s the modern version of valley girls and hippies drive to protest rallies.
Speaking of protest rallies, who write the picket signs for the writer stike?
