I spent the week at the Milwaukee Downtown Courtyard, room 325 for the week starting January 07, 2008. The Marriott Platinum gift as already in my room waiting for me - a very nice touch over the Residence Inn in Milwaukee. My room was on the 3rd floor, and the Platinum Lounge is on the 6th. Hopefully they move me to 6 on future stays.

The lounge is a lounge in name only, and don’t look for the name on the door. It is a room which you key opens. Inside you will find a sofa, table and chairs, a TV and stereo, a counter with a microwave oven and a basket containing chips. The one thing I got to use was the small under counter style refrigerator with the glass door. Inside is a shelf of regular soda, a shelf of bottled water - YES, and a 3rd shelf with a selection of diet and other sodas.

The hotel is in nice condition, with elevator service always available on the lobby and coming quickly to the floor when called. The lobby is nice and the pull up and wait under covered area while checking in is a nice touch.

Parking is in the adjacent parking garage. With parking at $16 / night, I just opted to use my monthly parking pass. If you visit Milwaukee any length of time, get the monthly parking pass. It pays for itself no matter which hotel downtown you staff, along with the access to the Grand Avenue Mall and the Milwaukee Downtown YMCA.

Internet access is free, fast and problem free all week.

The availability of food is plenty between delivery, pick up and dine in. One of my frequent restaurants, Joey Buona, even charges direct to your room. Nice touch for easy expense reporting and collect extra Marriott Reward points.

Marriott asked me via email to do a hotel survey tonight. I was glad to give the hotel a general rating of 7/10 to 8/10 in most categories. Why survey people make hundreds of questions I do not know. Why not higher? Well this is a Courtyard. There is no free breakfast. There is no lounge honestly, but I do appreciate the access to the free bottles of water. I was still drinking soda, the refrigerator would be a benefit. But this is a Courtyard not a Marriott, W or Renaissance. I travel on business and appreciate the discounted corporate rate and the friendly staff. For me, the ability to have a consistent place to stay where I can leave my stuff each week makes it very doable here each week. Being able to walk out the hotel and be in the mall and up to the YMCA is a bonus for me.
