I had a merchant tring to over charge me on a car trip from the Bellevue Hyatt to SEATAC. The trip was a flat rate with a short stop in between to run into Pike’s Market. We kept all the bags in the car, left at a corner where the driver parked, and got back in the car in the same spot. In otherwords trip to the airport plus a small waiting fee. All fine and the amount agreed upon. The driver gets to SEATAC, already had my corporate AMEX and hands me a slip with a huge over charged amount on it. We discuss it, argue it, and end it with him saying he has to charge me for the trip to the airport (fine), PLUS the time for the entire time he was with us, from pick up, to the delay to the airport. In short - double charging us. With a flight waiting, 2 customers next to me, and bags on the ground, he let me know I had to sign it. He would not fix the bill, so I told him I would dispute it. After going through security and getting to our flight, I had a few minutes so I quickly called the car service - they knew nothing about it since the driver was not back in. I called the hotel to let the conciereg and managers office know about the services attempt at ripping me off. I called AMEX when we landed. They could not file a dispute until the charge posted.

Two days later I called AMEX, repeated the above, and they processed a dispute. A week later a credit showed on my card. Great.

Today I find a reversal of the credit. No letter, no email, nothing.

I called AMEX, got one idiot, a supervisor who lied and said the dispute could not be opened, and then her supervisor. He can best be described as a jerk off. The call with him started with “okay we can just cancel your card if that is what you want” and ended with “I will bet you $1000 you do not get in touch with the fraud disputes department”

He was asked to write up the first idiot, and pull the record and find out why the dispute notes had no information other then “customer says over charged” put in the case notes. AMEX really dropped the ball from the time I spoke to them and they issued me the credit. All they asked from the merchant was proof of a valid charge, got the signed receipt and said thats good enough. I did call back, got disputes, repeated the details and got a credit issued again. Let’s see what happens next with them. Hopefully this is over.
