Exploring structure
I am looking for a multiple column magazine and ezine theme for my blog. With multiple family members, I would like to take the front page to the icon per post concept here, which I have a need for in a few other sites. Being able to use a Wordpress theme would be a selling point as opposed to going back down the vBulletin route. While its great, it doesn’t give the appearance of ownership or presence to individual contributors over the din which a blog or blog aggeration site can do. I did run across the structure theme by Justin Tadlock, the original author of this theme who requests a link back to http://justintadlock.com. I am always glad to do this and point it out in a post rather then just some lame over hyped link page.
The theme Justin has is pretty good. There are some conflicts between plugins I have installed, including the google adsense plugin. I can use his two ad and ad2 php pages, but if I use the plugin, I get consitency when the theme changes. Also, using the plugin, all objects in the widget sidebar below are shifted over. Not sure if this is from the plugin or the theme. There are a few minor things to work with, including his configuration options and clarification of examples for the 2 people I asked to look at it tonight and give me their opinion. The look is clean, nothing intense or stylish and nothing wrong with it. So it is a good starting point for the ezine look, but it is also two close to being plain or often copied to be a real place theme as is. I imagine either he saw someone elses theme when he started this project two different names ago, or he started clean and is developing along as he goes. Either way it has great potential. And as many people know, get someone with an eye for graphics and they can take something nice and flexible like this, and jump it out in a heartbeat.
Will this stay? Not sure - Is it a good theme - yes.
