Adding friends on Facebook
It is a bit interesting finding people you know, have known, worked with or went to school with. I have run several groups inside and outside of work. Then throw into that the hobby and interest groups such as gaming, diving, flying and all the other minor interests such as comics, gardening, spearfishing, lobsters, etc… Then while searching and finding one friend you come across someone who you know and wonder how you missed them the first time.
With a common last name like mine, it is easy to thing people will not remember it. But then throw in the groups of people I know mostly over the phone, mail, email, conventions and gaming. There I have had many nicknames, handles and groups. Try as I much to be Storpappa - Norse for Big Daddy - it did not fit a City of Heroes toon. So for 2 years I was using NITROX for almost everything. But no one on a dive trip ever called me NITROX.
So if you run across me, and think you might now me, toss me a note and lets see if we can dig through the attic of our minds together. I like cats, especially with General Tso’s sauce. Now that has been my signature outside of work for over a decade. Inside of work it has been the US Navy phrase, “Have a fine, fine Navy day”. I just change it to “Have a fine day!”. Even that when I worked with a team from Asia was in Japanese. But after complaints from people reading my messages who were prompted to install foreign character sets just to read my posts, I removed that line. Hind sight being what it is, I could have just attached a graphic.
One thing that suprised me is the lack of college professors on Facebook. Being able to reach current students might be an issue, but being able to see where prior students went in live I would think would be a fascinating window onto the world.
