High School Ring - crap or a waste of money?

Our oldest, just a few weeks after Sweet 16 palooza, comes home and gives the paper to her mom. Smart move on her part, because I would have looked at it, said no, and told her to throw it away. Now apparenlty these things are shilled to unsuspecting high school students during their junior years. You know, when they are most gulliable and in desperate need of things to feel grown up. I do not have a work ring. When we survived the 25th Anniversary, a mass email or mailing of a company authorized special ring for us to all buy.

And when I think of these big hunking stupid rings, I think of Wonder Twin powers activate - Form of an idiot with a big hunking ring on their finger. Form of a kid whos parents where suckered or guilted into throwing away a few bucks for some crap for a kid.

I went from my sophmore year to my senior year. And no one in my senior class homeroom ever turned to me and asked where my class ring was. But the girl in front of me, who talked to Veronica or was it just Ronnie instead of a shorted name, anyway - these two girls would talk over me in Economics class. Mr. Pat Murphy, Economics at Gloucester Catholic High School. One of my favorite memories from that year. And all in pale comparison to the memory of my meeting with Vice Principal Father John Sullivan. But a few teachers including History, English and Economics stand out even years later. And I just checked the school latest alumni report and recognize a few names on the list.

But none of that makes me want to wear GCHS where I attended for 1 year, or BEPS for 2 years, or all the various colleges for 2 year, 4 year and graduate school. Nor do I have a ring for my Associate, Bachelor or Master degrees.

I wonder if I can go buy a school ring right now, years later? I bet I can. Let me go check. Be right back.

……..

Wow, I went to a few sites and I could order my school ring this many years later. Want to see it? http://shop.jostens.com/sr.asp?ci=93E6391315CC4AA2883637884ECA8C77 Want to help me raise the $1,932.90 to pay for it?

Yep, I could not possibly think of a better use for $2,000.00 then a ring that advertises the year I graduated from high school.
