Anna doesn’t want to leave home and the two little ones for almost 3 weeks. She really doesn’t, no matter how much she is excited for Brighid to go on this trip. Yesterday was last minute packing. And a run to the mall for a light jacket. All her jackets are too big and too heavy. While there I told her to get a matching light windbreaker for Brighid in her size. And then she needed to get a very small travel umbrella. And then she saw a small purse that she wanted, and asked me, as if I can ever say no to her.

Lunch we grabbed at the diner with the baby - quick in and out so she could get back home to pack. At lunch she decided she needed band Aids in case of blister in dress shoes for her or Brighid on formal nites, and peanut butter crackers, and a comb.

I went to get Eilis and Brighid, and sent Brighid into Wal Mart for 2 packages of peanut butter crackers. She comes out, hands me the reciept and my debit card. Home we go. Then Anna asks why we have cheese crackers. I look at the reciept and Captain Attention to detail also managed to pick herself up a few packs of gum. Impulse consumer to the last minute this kid is sometimes.

We load up the car, send Brighid back into Wal Mart, she comes out with two packages of crackers. This time they are the correct peanut butter crackers. Across the bridge and to the airport. Eilis has to go potty. We are in the departures lane which has no parking, Anna keeps telling me to stay in the left lane, which I know doesn’t work because the small train next to me and its tracks tells me what I already know; parking at Philadelphia International is in the Arrivals side. Then Anna says go to the right, and as I look over its clear, then I notice the “clear” is her arm blocking the right rear view mirror. She gets yelled at after the cab I almost hit honks at me. And we drive all the way around the airport. Now she is told to help read the signs and you can hear the frustration in her going on this trip leaving the kids.

We go around departures - then to the right and under the train tracks looping back over to Arrivals and short term parking. We sent Brighid and Eilis in ahead for the emergency potty run. Anna, the baby, luggage and I follow. Up and over and down and over we go past a huge line at security to check in her bags at Southwest. heavy bag first, its 8 pounds over. The lady at the gate asks Anna if she wants to remove some stuff to the lighter bag. Anna says yes, I say “How much is the overage charge” $25. I hand her my card and tell Anna to fix it in Florida, don’t sit on the floor of the airport sorting out 8 pounds of clothes. Up to security, the line is a lot smaller.

We say our goodbyes, hugs and kisses all around. And as we walk away to Anna and run up and give your Mom a kiss goodbye. And of course there is Brighid saying “I am going too, bye Brighid” in her poor puppy dog eyes look. She doesn’t get it. maybe in a few years she will, but probably not.

Evidence to that is when I put Eilis and the baby in the Navigator, there on the floor, yes, is the bag from Wal Mart with the packages of peanut butter crackers.
