The Deal

This is a long thought thread. In fact, I’ll throw it on my blog instead of posting it on the forums.

I am always looking for some way to broaden the community. And anyone who is here knows what the deal is I try and offer - posts. I believe that a healthy and active forum feeds the community to both survive and grow. 100 people sitting on Teamspeak doesn’t help anywhere near as much as our wonderful Stalker and her target do in a single week :)
At the community I sold, I sat down at the middle of the year and told all of the $5.00 contirbutors I was dropping that. What it added did not make up for the work to manage it, and did not return any gains to the forums. And I sadly have had to review that policy with two friends here in the past week. In both cases, people I have also gamed with in game. I hate to be a jerk, and I hate to turn anyone away.

Today I contacted a person who posted asking for free teamspeak for their group. A 25 to 199 user server. Their website? A nearly dead site with 211 articles and 17 registered users. That is an ideal fit for The Deal here - get a forums, moderator control. access groups, and TS server.

But The Deal does not work for people who have to run their own site. Which is funny, because I generally only talk to people who are looking. Every once in a while I go looking for people, but it is never beneficial or a good use of my time. I do it anyway, since I am an optimist. I love doing the site admin for the sheer technical fun it gives me to be monkeying around with the scripts, files, and databases. I have learned a lot fo cool tricks and techniques that suprising enough, yes, I have used in my main job. But I do it to build and grow and run with as much fervor as I do my gaming. Just looka t all the games I grind on to level up or gather in game wealth.

The Deal is, IMGO, a greta thing. I see people at places like Guild Portal, paying for a TS server (or Vent), and then running a forum which helps Guild Portals statistics. or worse, pays to turn the ads off - WAY WAY more then the ads generate - WAY MORE. And get a vanity domain name.

Or, come here, get the guild.gamegeekspeak.com domain name, forums, ts, and if we work it out, a clan server. With no ads, and free.

I understand it doesn’t work out for some people. And to those I always ask, are you gaming or running a website? If the answer is gaming, then come here with us, and lets us all game together. If its running a website, 211 posts and 17 users across 2 dozen categories is a crappy job, IMHO. But I keep trying.

After all, we need fresh meat in here to get that dam asteroids torunament of Joeyfine’s going already. Head over to the arcade and enter the asteroids tournament people!
