Howl’s Moving Castle
2nd week in lent - my second film. Another great work of art from the modern master of animated films, Hayao Miyazaki. Original title is Hauru no ugoku shiro. It is the stunning story of a girl living in a land with 2 warring nations where wizards and witches exist. She runs into a pair of nasty soldiers, and is saved by a wizard. From that brief encounter, a jealous witch puts a curse on the young girl, turning her into an old woman. She seeks refuge in the wild and stumbles on Howl’s Moving Castle, Howl we learn is that same wizard who came to her rescue in the streets from the 2 soldiers the day before.
This is a long film, and at no point did I ever feel anything but held to the screen. The action, use of magic, the war, the struggle of going from a young girl to an old woman overnight. It is a stunning tale. And perfect for the entire family. The violence is secondary, and tells the story. There is no graphic horror or gross scenes. Really the grossest stuff on screen is magic goop and a filthy house in need of cleaning
A must see for the entire family. Hayao Miyazaki has done it again with a film just a level below Spirited Away. I still watch Spirited Away. And our middle daughter knows it as Girl Movie. A film we watched over and over again on the level of Croutching Tiger and Cast Away.
