EVE Online Monday Day 0002

Well its Monday and I am home sick from work. I feel like crap. Not much gaming going on, I managed to sit at my desk to keep out of bed. Biggest actual gaming today was getting Pugilist in game ad going through the tutorial. While waiting for him I did a few mission and racked up a nice purse of 300,000 ISK. Not bad for an hour or so worth of play time.

But this is a crappy day for me, but it let me look at the EVE Online skill system in pretty good detail, and I have to rate it Excellent. While in bed, praying for god to trike lightning on my house since my wife has the TV in our bedroom on a timer and it tried to wake me this morning. But my NITROX pilot was still earning skill points. Before I logged off, I selected a skill, and it continues to earn points even while off-line. This eliminates the macro for skills concept since early levels take an hour or more to learn, you just have to pick a short skill when you come home from work, change to another one later in the evening, and then switch to a longer skill when you go to bed, and let it earn skills all night and the next day while you are out at work. EXCELLENT!

Yes you could pick a skill that takes 2 hours to train and then log off for 3 days and come back for only that 2 hour skill trained up. The game does not automatically switch to other skills - it forces you to think about when you might be on next and make the best choices for you. here no template will help you. A kid home all day could switch skills all the time while the average working gamer would want to do a short skill when they got home and switch to longer skills when they leave or log off. Now as the skills get more difficult and you raise them up in levels the timers go up. Rasing my Callenter Frigate from skill level 4 to 5 currently says some 30 days. So I could set that today and not have to change skills till after Christmas. So I had better make sure I can get a benefit from Gallente Frigate 5 before I let all that time go into raising the skill. Again here you have to think about what is best for you.
