HP Recalls Battery Packs For Laptops
HP recalls laptop batteries
The story at MSNBC from October 14th, 2005 caught my attention and sent me to the recall notice at HP.com. I need to remember to check my laptop battery one of this days and see if it matches the serial numbers.
Hewlett-Packard is recalling about 135,000 battery packs for some H-P and Compaq laptop computers because of reports they overheated and melted, the Palo Alto, Calif. The lithium ion rechargeable battery packs are used with H-P Pavilion, Compaq Presario, H-P Compaq and Compaq Evo laptop computers. The company has received 16 reports of the batteries” overheating; four cases occurred in the United States.
But as you can from the date of this entry, 4 out of 135,000 has not gotten me to check the serial number all that fast. 400 out of 135,000 and every techie I work with would have been talking about it. 4,000 out of 135,000 and my wife would have had checked herself. 40,000 out of 135,000 and I would have been forced to check every laptop in the house, at work and the garage just to be safe thanks to hysteria from the local news with every relative calling my wife asking if we were safe.
