3:30 AM site changes
Baby woke up, I watched her while my wife got a bottle and sat with her. So wide awake, I came downstairs and started to fix an alignment problem with large content pane images. I have tried to get a design, but since neither myself, Pugilist or Robble has any skills in this area, I have tried to hold off on any element additions or deletions - if there is no master plan, stick with what we have. Saves the problem of effort being spent as a goal rathern then the more important goal of requirements first, then design, then effort.
So I changed the overall page table layout from a master page, well rather a main page table to 3 seperate tables, a header table, content table with three panes for navigation, content and banners, and a footer table. It is not DIV tags, but again, no element changes on any portal until a gran unified universal design is in place.
Then since I was not tired, I tweaked the main XSL to include the date stamp of the original item from the RSS feeds. Nothing big, dont know why I didn’t include it from the beginning. I then started to put in the dc:creator name then changed this to thinking how do I put in the avatar of tha person and wow, a cool picture, and then hitting google to look for a possible look up into the database for this item and then and then
I settled for a border around each element, saved it and went to here and now back for a little bit more sleep.
As you can see, effort without a design is just stupid. Effort on putting in the datestamp was only needed because I posted last Tuesday about a security maintenance to apply all of the Microsoft October 2005 security hotfixes including MS05-051. When I saw it on the main page, I noticed it was vague, so I changed the post title to the date. This fixed it, once, but was not as clean as putting the datestamp in the XSL. So a nicer presentation is in, but again - this is an element, and we should do no element changes without the design. Well, until someone else wakes up at 3 AM and hits the server with a cool idea in the middle of the night.
Oh, and if you hate the borders and now how to turn them off, don’t bitch to me, just turn them off in the XSL
