Chronicles of Riddick
I loved Pitch Black. The two people I saw the movie with hated it. She isn’t very intelligent, I think she has a GED, and he flunked his way through college after 8 years. She blows up balloons and plays music in an old age retirement home, and he has some government job. So I do not really expect much from them.
But Pitch Black was great - all sci-fi. An alien planet, explorers, strange creatures, and awesome events.
So when I saw the previews for Chronicles of Riddick for some reason it just did not interest me and I passed on it. So this Sunday, with computer down and family packing up to head out to the in-laws, I found myself putting on HBO and there was the movie just about to start. I figured 5 minutes and I would be in the shower and on the way to buy my new computer parts. I was glued to the movie the entire time. WOW!
Yes, some people (Pugilist) didn’t like the necromongers and elements - creatures of magic or strange powers which deviated from the original movies no magic stuff. Or that he was a strong jail bird and now a fortold by destiny super race. I didn’t see it that way - I saw the magic as yet another strange force in the universe and what it brings to the worlds around us.
The action was fast pace, lots of good fights - great really because they were believable. No Matrix part 2 or 3 nonesense. Special effects are there, but they add to the story, not the other way around. Just a great sci-fi movie. Call it a B flick or not, but it was a good film and I would recommend it. **** out of *****.
