Disney FastPass 101

It is a feature Disney brought out a few years back. It helps Disney because it controls the long lines at popular rides, and forces guests to explore the rest of the park. Controling the crowd flow is a big thing for Disney and all theme parks.

FastPass is pretty simple (yes its confusing at first). You go to a busy ride, like the Kilimanjaro Safaris® Expedition at Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park: as soon as you walk into the park. Put in your park ticket and get back your park ticket AND a FastPass voucher to come back later for the ride.

  • 9:00 AM - you and your party get to Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park:
  • 9:15 AM - after lines and getting your bearings, there is a 30 minute line for the Kilimanjaro Safaris® Expedition
  • 9:15 AM - hit speedpass right there in front of the Kilimanjaro Safaris® Expedition
  • 9:20 AM - your party is watching the Lion King show with no wait
  • 10:00 AM - when you come out, your FastPass for the Kilimanjaro Safaris® Expedition, which is good from, say, 10:45 to 11:45 is still not up
  • 10:05 AM - pictures with the charachters
  • 10:15 AM - potty break
  • 10:25 AM - you wonder over to another attraction, take pictures, see the bords, watch the monkeys
  • 11:00 AM - you and your party walk over to the Kilimanjaro Safaris® Expedition, see it has a 45 minute wait to get on. You show your FastPass, and walk to the front of the line

And a second well know about FastPass- you have to insert your ticket, but not your fingers. So you can give your tickets to one person, say who does not want to ride on Space Mountain® , and they can get speedpass to the next show for the entire party, while the rest of you are screaming through Space Mountain® .

Nothing about FastPass is a secret. Every Disney tri web site, forum, hotel and Disney themselves on their web site, castmembers and videos tells you all about it, its benefits and what it looks like. Do not be fooled - FastPass is great if you manage it properly.

  • Magic Kingdom® Park example - Get 4 Speed Pass tickets for Space Mountain® , even if only 2 will ride it - they can go right back on
  • Magic Kingdom® Park example - Get 2 tickets for Peter Pan’s Flight in Fantasyland and 2 tickets for The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh in Fantasyland - 2 kids can go and do 2 rights back to back
  • Epcot® example - Test Track had the longest lines till the latest rides opened at Mission to Mars and just recently, Soarin’ - So get the FastPass for the newst attraction, and go to the others till your time is up to return.
  • Use them every chance you get
  • Get them for the busiest ride right away, then go do other stuff
  • Do not get them for a ride, THEN go on the ride - go do something else
  • If you have an extra FastPass, hand them to someone in line - generosity is it’s own reward
