Welcome To The Fling & The Feis!
It is our pleasure to welcome you to the first Celtic Fling Feis, part of a weekend-long event known as the Celtic Fling & Highland Games! For one weekend in late June each year, Lancaster County’s Amish country becomes the Celtic capital of the United States as 100’s of musicians, dancers, craftsmen, Scottish clans, Irish societies and rugged athletes from across North America and Europe gather at Mount Hope Estate & Winery.
The Celtic Fling could not be easier to get to. We”re on Route 72, one-half mile south of PA Turnpike Exit 266 (the 266 comes from the fact that we are 266 miles east of the Ohio state line). We”re 15 miles north of Lancaster PA and 14 miles east of Hershey PA. Philadelphia is about 85 miles east and Pittsburgh is about 200 miles west.
More About The Fling & The Feis
As you know, the 2005 Fling is set for June 25 and 26 on the festival grounds of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire and will cover the Faire’s entire 35 acres in kilts, cabers, official Scottish athletic competitions, sanctioned Scottish Highland Dance competition, the Feis, border collie sheepherding, and Celtic crafts, food and music. Please note the Frequently Asked Questions section and keep checking the Fling at our website, www.parenfaire.com.
This year, we gladly welcome back Eileen Ivers & Immigrant Soul. Eileen hails as the nine time All-Ireland Fiddle Champion, and has performed with the London Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony at The Kennedy Center, the Boston Pops, musical star of RiverDance, The Chieftains, Hall and Oates, Afrocelts, Patti Smith, Paula Cole, founding member of Cherish the Ladies and this is a short list of her accomplishments, headliners, tours and affiliations. She has established herself as the pre-eminent exponent of the Irish fiddle in the world today. Along with Eileen, the Glengarry Bhoys, Brother, Celtic Spring, The Wild Geese, Tartan Terrors, Charlie Zahm and Seamus Kennedy will perform throughout the weekend.
You”ll want to experience it all, so make plans to be with us both days. Your already-discounted Feis admittance ticket allows you to visit and enjoy all of the Fling, as well as the Feis, on Saturday, and please know that while you”re here you”ll have plenty of opportunity to purchase deeply discounted Return To The Fling tickets for Sunday the 26th. As dancers, of course, you”ll find Sunday’s official Scottish Highland Dance Competition of great interest.
We are located ½ mile south of PA Turnpike Exit 266, on Route 72, 15 miles north of Lancaster PA and 14 miles east of Hershey.
We are so honored to be an official member of the North American Feis Commission and to be sponsoring a Feis. And, of course, we are even more honored that you have chosen us as one of your points of competition. Good luck! Here’s to a great Celtic Fling Feis and wondrous personal success for you!
