press 1 press 2 press 2 wait a minute……
Employee: Hello, can I help you?
Me: Yes, I am experiencing intermittent cable interruptions between me and the local service routing point at Audubon at ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx which has caused a total service interruption 4 times in the past 20 minutes.
Employee: (Insert slow redneck drawl here): Do you have a router behind your cable modem?
Me: No
Employee: (Insert slow redneck drawl here): Do you have a router behind your cable modem? because I can’t see your computer
Me: No
Employee: (Insert slow redneck drawl here): Do you have a router behind your cable modem? Because that might be the cause of the problem
Me: 30 minutes its been no, and I can ping the local head end address, then cannot. It could be a problem between here and there, or there up the line.
Employee: (Insert slow redneck drawl here): Do you have a router behind your cable modem? Because no one else is reporting this kind of problem.

So this oh so pleasant experience goes around for 5 minutes, I hang up Reboot the cable modem again, and for the next 15 minutes cannot get to such small sites on the web as ibm.com, sony.com and google.com. Then all of a sudden, poof - they all work. Must be my router behind the cable modem.
