This page is dedicated to the many memories from Camp Rince Ceol, which is the dance camp I attend. I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I do and maybe you’ll learn a thing or two about some promintant figures in the Irish Dance World I have become friends with.

Derek of the Dance Brighid of the Dance

This is Derek Moran. He’s from Dublin, Ireland. Derek started off in Riverdance and then took over as lead male dancer when Michael Flatley left. He was also the lead male in Lord of the Dance and was in Feet of Flames. Derek won 2nd place at the World Championships, which are held in Ireland every Easter. My first week of camp, Derek only wore his dance shoes twice. My group got camp parody as our topic for Showcase, which is where the campers perform for the instructors at the end of the week. In Camp Parody, you make fun of the instructors. Everybody said I was a very good Derek, and was just like him, so I played him. I also received the nickname Mini-Derek.

LOOK! Derek is wearing harshoes!!!!!! ALERT THE MEDIA!

This is Fergal Fay.

The talent in his family is outstanding. His mother Grainne McCormack’s record of 8 “All-Irelands” was broken by Fergal, who won his 10th “All-Ireland” in 1994 at the age of 21. Dearblha, Fergal’s sister, shattered that record by winning 13 All-Ireland and International Dance Championships, bringing the family total to 31 All-Ireland Gold medals. Fergal’s father, Martin, plays the tin whistle for The Chieftains. Fergal teaches as the McCormick-Fay School of Irish Dance in Dublin, which is owned by his family. Fergal is also a good soccer player and is a fan of the Republic of Ireland FAI team!

This is Padraic Moyles. Padraic is the principle dancer in Riverdance with the Boyne company. He joined the show in November of 1997. He was in Shania Twain’s “Don’t Be Stupid” music video. Padraic is quite a soccer freak. When he was little, he wanted to be a pro player, he plays at camp, his favorite video game is FIFA soccer, and his worst habit is watching too much ESPN sports channels, which he can’t live without.

This is Sarah Clarke from London, England. Sarah owns the Paris School of Irish Dance. She was the “Good Girl” in Lord of the Dance and was also in Feet of Flames. If you ever want to learn some good stretches, go to Sarah. She gave me two really good ones for my hamstrings and one for my achilles tendon. My friend Kaitlin played Sarah in Camp Parody.

No, Deirdre, you can’t join Riverdance’s Flying Squad.
